The main reasons for the explosion of thin film capacitors are as follows:

Improper capacitor selection: When selecting thin film capacitors, the working conditions of the circuit, such as voltage and current, as well as the withstand voltage level of the capacitor, were not correctly considered. This may cause the capacitor to malfunction and in extreme cases, it may explode.

Poor material of thin film capacitors: Some manufacturers may choose materials of poor quality to manufacture thin film capacitors in order to reduce costs, which will shorten the lifespan of capacitors and make it easier to encounter problems during use.

Circuit temperature too high: If the heat dissipation effect of the circuit board is not good, or if it operates in a high-temperature environment, it may cause the temperature of the thin film capacitor to rise, thereby affecting its insulation performance and ultimately leading to explosion.

Low voltage impersonation of high voltage: In order to improve the market competitiveness of their products, some manufacturers may sell low rated voltage thin film capacitors as high voltage capacitors. This practice can lead to insufficient actual voltage resistance of the capacitors, which can easily explode during use.

Overvoltage or overcurrent: When the voltage or current in the circuit exceeds the rated range of the thin film capacitor, the insulation film of the capacitor may rupture, causing the capacitor to explode.

Packaging quality issue: If the packaging process of the capacitor is poor, it may cause moisture or other impurities to invade the inside of the capacitor, damage its insulation performance, and accelerate the aging or damage of the capacitor.

Poor circuit heat dissipation: If the design of the circuit board is unreasonable or the heat dissipation measures are not in place, even at lower temperatures, capacitors may experience a decrease in insulation performance and eventually explode due to prolonged exposure to high humidity.

All of the above situations may cause the rupture of thin film capacitors. Therefore, when designing and selecting thin film capacitors, all relevant factors should be fully considered, appropriate models and specifications should be selected, and appropriate protective measures should be taken.
